Cynthia Marsh was educated at Moore College of Art (BFA), Rochester Institute of Technology (MFA), and via the larger world that informs our ideas. She is a record keeper and a narrative artist who uses large, hand-carved wood letters to begin a conversation that takes form in books, broadsides, and printed environments.

Ms. Marsh was a founding member of the Women’s Graphic Center @ the (historic) Woman’s Building in Los Angeles. From 1978-1990 she operated a freelance print and illustration studio in LA that produced Grammy-nominated album covers. She taught courses in printmaking and design at California State University, Northridge, UCLA, and Otis College of Art + Design. In 1995, she accepted the position as chair of the APSU Department of Art (Clarksville, TN) where she founded the Goldsmith Press and Rare Type Collection’s a living museum of 19th century wood type that encourages community members to print and post their stories.

Ms. Marsh recently presented at the 2021 Hamilton Wayzgoose, Scripps College, and The Museum of Modern Art PS1. She has served as an artist-in-residence at KKV Grafik in Malm, Sweden, New England Regional Museum in Armidale, Australia, Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester NY, Warm Heart Papermaking Workshop in Arusha, Tanzania and at the Women’s Studio Workshop in Roslindale, Her print work is in the special collections at LA County Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYC), Bowdoin College (ME), and Wellesley College (MA), and Otis College of Art (CA). Cynthia Marsh retired from Austin Peay State University in 2018. Now, she spends her time wisely  in the studio, giving workshops, and visiting her grandchildren.
